The in-depth winter maintenance I performed on my Kawasaki GTR 1400 has now been tested in real conditions. After riding approximately 1500 kilometers post-service, it’s time to share insights and observations on how cleaning the fuel injectors affected the bike’s performance.

How Does the Bike Feel Now?
In short: the maintenance was absolutely worth it. The bike now responds to throttle input much more eagerly, especially at lower RPMs. The slight hesitation or “lag” I used to feel is completely gone. The engine feels freer and more consistent, and the overall ride experience is smoother and more enjoyable. It even feels like the bike has gained some power—or at least, the throttle response is sharper and more accessible.
Even though overtaking trucks was never a problem before, now I have to be extra mindful not to overdo it—speed picks up fast with just a slight twist of the throttle. It’s definitely a case of “watch that mirror” or risk the police taking your license!
Fuel Consumption Changes
Another noteworthy outcome: fuel consumption has decreased. Before the maintenance, I was averaging about 5.2 L/100 km at a cruising speed of 100 km/h. Now it’s consistently around 4.8–4.9 L/100 km. That’s a significant improvement, and on longer rides it’s already noticeable in the time between fuel stops.
A Reminder on the Importance of Maintenance
Cleaning the injectors isn’t a routine service task, but when problems start to emerge—as in my case with rising oil levels—it can make all the difference. This experience showed me how one clogged component can affect the entire engine and even pose a long-term durability risk. Now the bike not only runs better, but I also have increased confidence in its reliability.
Was It Worth Doing Myself?
The job took time, but the savings and the learning experience made it worth it. In my previous article (linked below), I detail the full process, costs, and tools used. Looking back, I can say it was time well spent—both for riding enjoyment and financial benefit.
Summary and What’s Next
After 1500 km, I can confidently recommend injector cleaning if you’re experiencing performance issues or your bike just isn’t running right. The maintenance restored the GTR 1400’s responsiveness and lowered fuel consumption. I’ll keep riding and monitoring how it performs over the longer term—and I’ll be back with updates later this season.
